Walthamstow Wetlands

Walthamstow Wetlands is one of Europe's largest urban wetland nature reserves!  It is a 520-acre site perfect for enjoying the peace and quiet while watching the abundant wildlife such as swans, kestrels and geese as well as migrating waterfowl. This reserve is situated in Walthamstow, just 15 minutes from Central London and is a great place for children and families to connect with nature and explore this oasis with a guiding map.

Children & Family activities

There's a variety of activities for families to enjoy with their children such as talks, tours and workshops. There's a lot to learn about wildlife conservation, water sustainability and nature in general which is a great opportunity for children to learn these important topics from a young age. The signs around the reserve is helpful for kids to identify the different types of birds while bird-watching.
The dedicated path for running and cycling is great for those who want to enjoy the nature while being active at the same time. There are Wild Weekends for children who want to enjoy making art & crafts, have sensory play and follow a map on a nature walk. On Sundays, families can take part in pond-dipping, gardening and go on adventurous minibeast hunts.

The Engine House cafe offers a variety of hot and cold foods depending on if you would like to have breakfast, lunch or a lovely afternoon tea.
